1. Apply PVA glue to your rigid surface (thick card board, canvas board or mount board) using a plastic card or glue spreader.
2. Whilst the glue is still wet, rip and scrunch a piece of tissue paper and stick it to the glued surface creating more ridges and textures as you press it down.
3. Create as many patches as you have colour media to try out with (watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, gouache etc.
4. Leave it for several hours or overnight to dry completely.
1. Apply the paste (and or All purpose filler/Polyfilla) using a palette knife or plastic card to your rigid surface. Keep the thickness between 1-5mm, any thicker and it takes too long to dry completely and risks cracking off.
2. Create a contrast of surfaces from smooth to rough.
3. Create as many patches as you have colour media to try out with (watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, gouache etc.)
4. Leave it for several hours or overnight to dry completely.
Once your tissue paper texture and modelling paste texture test patches are completely dry you can start experimenting with applying colour media.
1. Label your tests before you begin with the media you will apply.
2. With each separate media experiment with adding it undiluted and diluted so that you can see how the thickness of paint affects the texture
3. Try out a light/ and darker colour on your patches, and experiment with blending two different colours on the surface
4. Notice how easily the colour media goes on and how (if at all) the colour changes as it dries.
