Oops just realised that my choice of piece to copy is the same as Alice's. The outcome however is very different. I will never make a forger. I covered my board with textured plaster and then got stuck in. I started by using acrylic but found it dried too quickly on my palette so I switched to my favourite paint i.e. gouache and found that much better to use.

I like it, I love the colours, I especially like the blue tones, it's vibrant and you have a great sense of depth which draws one in.

Thank you Adrienne. After a rocky start I actually enjoyed doing it. Love his work anyway.

Lovely harmony of colours Laraine.   Gouache seems to fit in well with this art.  Ingenious!   Thanks for explaining what you used.

So good to see another copy of the Klimt Laraine  -and sounds as if you made a wise switch to gouache. I wonder if you found it as challenging as I did? There are just so many colours in there. I made the mistake of trying to do it on a very small scale which made some of the detail very tricky. I think you have created a lovely homage and I rather I prefer your colour palette -it is calmer and more harmonious.

Now I know you have copied aspects of Klimt's work before -did you discover anything different with one? Did the textured surface help or hinder?

Hi Alice. Thanks for your positive comments. I think I did learn quite a lot from copying Klimt's garden which made me see the value of copying and learning from the masters. I really noticed his layering of colour and the movement and energy of his brush strokes which was a different approach than he used in other works. It helped create a more dynamic picture and I am hoping to apply it to the next part of the project. The texture did help as when I applied the plaster I was very aware of the direction in which I dragged it. It was very satisfying applying the gouache to it. A nice absorbancy.

Fabulous -so glad to hear all of that. I too am discovering myself how different aspects of Klimt's work that feature in different paintings are influencing me, especially in my Garden patchwork piece -as I have also been copying his Pear Tree and Marshy pond......think I need to start stalking a different artist now!

Wonderful Laraine and with texture to, you can see  how the patches of white help the composition.

I'm in awe of everyone's work. I get lost in paintings and really struggle to find where I am. I think you've done really well. I'm beginning to earn how important white is, so your comment, Jeff, is helpful.

It can help to cover up parts of the image you are copying to avoid getting to lost or overwhelmed. Divide it in four (likewise your copy) an then work on a quarter at a time, with the rest covered somehow.
