My Patchwork Garden
I tried various shapes but settled on a portrait view to give depth. After several pen sketches I have a final design, although the colour blocks may move.
I thought in the style of Klimt might suit its eclectic mix although to try it in Van Gogh style with a South of France palette might be fun, I'm not really decided. Also still thinking which medium to use, so it'll be a while before I finish. In the meantime if anyone has any thoughts....

- My Patchwork GardenAdrienne, you have been very thorough in your planning... puts me to shame! The portrait view certainly suits the composition. It looks pretty good already. I look forward to seeing the finished painting in whatever medium you decide to use.

Re: My Patchwork GardenA Klimt/ Monet/ Vincent I am intrigued! Really enjoying this sketch as it's full of energy and interest and should provide plenty of inspiration for a more developed painting.A couple of suggestions - Monet always made sure his pathways were visually broken up with shadows or objects. Consider -adding shadows or allowing the plants to 'spill out' onto the path.
Could the fountain be somewhat 'broken up/softened' by a plant or two or moved slightly further into the composition? Having said that it does work where it is -it just seems a bit stark at the moment and therefore my eye gets a bit stuck on it!
Monet's Garden Gate is particularly loose and impressionistic (for me where much of its appeal lies) think about ways (media and technique) you can keep yours suggestive and not over described....

Re: My Patchwork GardenThanks, Alice, I'm still thinking so your ideas are very helpful, and yes I see what you mean about the fountain, it does have plants around it so I'll work some of them in, I quite like it where is is to frame that corner of the picture.
And yes shadows/ plants are a good idea, there's no contrast in the sketch, so I'll work on that before I start with paints.
I think I am going to have several goes at it, one very loose in impressionist style, having made like Vincent I think I'll have a go in his style. I thought I'd use the modelling paste and acrylic and fairly large A3 sort of size, I might even have a go at an oil as well eventually. And then maybe a watercolour with more detail - we'll see.Reply to

Re: My Patchwork GardenBrilliant -sounds like you have your July Art sorted -you may need to put the new project on ice when it arrives tomorrow!I have a similar thought process and want to explore compositions in all kinds of media and different scales and approaches -if only time to make art was infinite.....

My Patchwork Garden - water colourHad to prepare a board for the acrylic, so started with the pen drawing for water colour, whilst the glue dried. Will choose a palette and paint when I've done my Modelling paste textures and that's drying.Post by Pat Winslow
Re: My Patchwork GardenI'm really looking forward to seeing this. Your pen drawing is great. I wish my garden looked like that!Reply to

Re: My Patchwork GardenThank you, it has features of our garden, which is a small courtyard, melded together, sadly there wasn't room for everything, and artists licence has added depth and a gate!!Post by Laraine Saedi
Re: My Patchwork GardenI love the looseness of your drawing Adrienne and the combination of line and colour wash. Whatever style or medium you choose it would be nice to retain those elements.Reply to
