Garden Behind a House in Van Gogh style!!
It's the best I can do, so I think I'm done! Fascinating to do and a task I'd like to repeat, one day! The first problem was choosing which online version was nearest to the original. I decided to use acrylics as I have used them a bit for painting models and I had only just got my first starter set of oils.
Colour matching and mixing were the most difficult for me. I started with the sky, and couldn't find a tone until I decided that VG must have used some white in the mix. The orange hues were the most difficult to find and I couldn't really match VG's subtle tones. Alice' suggestion of using cut out circles to isolate colours really helped.
It was really difficult deciding the painting order, I'd start and then realise that some strokes were under a different colour, so back to the palette!
This is how the real thing looks, but it's not the version I used as a model and the colours are different!
And this is mine!

Re: Garden Behind a House in Van Gogh style!!A seriously good copy here Adrienne -you have captured his palette and style beautifully and I don't think anyone one would fail to recognise its ancestry! In fact You could try getting away with sayings its a newly discovered one waiting for authentication......Glad you found the colour isolation tip useful.

Re: Garden Behind a House in Van Gogh style!!Really prefer yours to the originalAdrienne. The reds make it alive. And allows super break in the green.

Re: Garden Behind a House in Van Gogh style!!This is terrific. I love the movement. Can we ever capture the exact tones and colours? I don't think so, unless we're standing right next to the original and copying it directly. Every photo we use for research is slightly different. Factor in light when we're working, and human eyesight and perception, and you have a heck of a task.
Anyway, I like your take very much.
